How to Install a Weiand Supercharger on a Small- Block. When it comes to the traditional Roots- style supercharger, there are three schools of thought. Some want the blower strictly for the looks—and who can blame them? For others, the visual appeal takes a backseat to the power gains. Superchargers are capable of some serious power, and what good is looking the part if you can’t back it up? The final group wants it all: the bark, the bite, heck, the whole dang dog. They want their blown small- block to look and sound as tough as can be, then serve up a serious can of whoopass when the dinner bell rings. Luckily, a Weiand supercharger installation on a small- block Chevy offers everything for everyone. When it comes to making a statement, nothing screams quite as loud as a Roots- style supercharger. When it comes time to build any powerplant, you must first be specific about the intended purpose. The choice of cam, heads, or intake will be dictated by the intended application, and this holds true for a supercharger as well. If you are looking to build an 8,0. Top Fuel engine, your choice of supercharger will be dramatically different than if you just want to put one on a crate engine. One path to a successful supercharged combination is to start with a powerful naturally aspirated engine. Knowing this, we designed a Mouse motor that would simultaneously keep boost down and power up. We did this using the three Cs: Cylinder heads, Cam timing, and Cubic inches. The build started with cubic inches, since increased displacement translates directly into additional power.
